The Highlands Ladybirds volleyball team (9-7 overall) managed to take a set from the host Scott Lady Eagles on Tuesday.

But the three-time defending 10th Region champion Lady Eagles (11-8) pulled off their second win of the year against the Ladybirds, 3-1 (13-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18). Host Scott handed Highlands its lone loss of the September Slam Tournament by a 2-0 (25-18, 25-21) score on Sept. 1. Scott and veteran Head Coach Andrea Sullivan drove to the state semifinals in 2014. Sullivan has been the head coach there since 2003.

"I respect (Sullivan's) commitment and longevity with their program and what she's been able to do over the years," said Katelyn Sallee, Highlands Head Coach.

Highlands recorded 43 kills, four aces, 81 digs, and two blocks by senior Mary Claire Redden. Junior Margot Seidel had 15 kills, an ace and 10 digs. Senior Gracie Schweitzer had two aces and 24 digs. Sophomore Casey Dunn added 12 kills, an ace and 11 digs.

"(We learned) to really keep the momentum and keep pushing through when we're down," Dunn said. "I think we're getting better at developing a rhythm. It still needs some work, but we're doing better than past years."

Highlands plays host to its own Cake Classic on Friday. The Ladybirds take on Bishop Brossart at 4:30 p.m.
