Creech goes above 1500 points for season in Jenkins loss

The good new for Whitney Creech is she etched two points above 1,500 on the season with a 41-point output in the 53rd District championship game.

The bad news for the 5-foot-9-inch point guard and the host Jenkins Lady Cavaliers basketball team (16-14 overall) is it fell short of its first district championship since 2001 by a 64-61 count to Knott County Central. The top-seeded Lady Patriots (22-7) went 8-0 in district play during the regular season as well.

Creech has 5,369 points for her state career record for both boys and girls. Creech averages just more than 50 points per game. She has beaten the old mark of 4,948 held by current Highlands Ladybird Head Coach Jaime Walz-Richey by 421 points.

Jenkins takes on 54th District champion Perry County Central (14-8) in the 14th Region quarterfinals on Tuesday at Powell County. Game time is 8 p.m. The teams split during the regular season.
