Senior Night turned into a second straight win for the Highlands Bluebirds soccer team (7-8-5) on Thursday.

The Bluebirds shut out the visiting Ryle Raiders, 2-0 for their ninth shutout of the season. Noah Sellers and Brady Gesenhues scored the goals for the Bluebirds and goalkeeper Nick Breslin saved the only Ryle shot on goal.

Highlands concludes the regular season on Saturday. Dixie Heights comes to Tower Park for an 8 p.m. contest.

Volleyball:
Highlands 2, Bellevue 0:

The Ladybirds (12-14 overall) moved to 2-1 in 36th District action with the 2-0 (25-11, 25-13) win in Fort Thomas.

Highlands saw Jessica Ginter record seven kills and Lauren Epperson record seven assists and six aces. AJ Guth and Sydney Kroger followed with four digs each.

Highlands plays in the Cake Classic starting Friday.

Lexington Lafayette 3, Newport Central Catholic 0:

The Lady Generals beat the Thoroughbreds in three straight, 25-17, 25-8 and 25-23.

NewCath (13-10) saw Mikah Freppon record 19 assists and Rachel McDonald have 10 kills. Keyaira Lankheit added five kills.

The Thoroughbreds travel to undefeated Louisville Mercy on Sunday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Soccer, Girls:
Newport Central Catholic 2, Campbell County 0:

The Lady Breds (13-4-1) recorded a huge road win. Campbell County knocked off defending state champion Notre Dame earlier in the week.

Taylor Tolle and Jenna Ahlbrand scored the NewCath goals. Loren Zimmerman and Donnelly Simmins had the assists with goalkeeper Meg Martin recording six saves.

NewCath takes on Dayton on Monday in the district tournament semifinals.
