Highlands Girls Drop Another at Lexington Catholic

Lady Trojans Down Bluebirds

The Highlands Bluebirds girls basketball team (3-3 overall) dropped a second straight game at the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic on Saturday.

The Webster County Lady Trojans from the 2nd Region beat the Bluebirds, 57-37. Highlands made just 12-of-42 shots for 29 percent including 5-of-23 from three-point range for 22 percent and 8-of-14 free throws for 57 percent. Senior guard Maggie Hinegardner scored 11 to lead the Bluebirds.

Highlands also had 32 rebounds, 19 turnovers, 10 assists amd 10 steals. Senior forward Meghan Walz and junior post Rory O'Hara grabbed seven rebounds each. Sophomore point guard Anna Greenwell had three assists.

Webster County saw three players score in double figures. They were senior guard Marissa Austin with 22, junior small forward Adeline McDyer with 13 and freshman guard Katelyn Cates with 12.'

The Lady Trojans made 12 three-point tries, seven two-pointers and 7-of-9 free throws for 78 percent. Austin made six triples.

The Bluebirds play Boyd County (3-5) at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday to conclude the tournament.
