With the graduation of 31 seniors, Highlands could see a number of contributors move up from the junior varsity and freshman squads.

The junior varsity team finished 5-4. The Bluebirds defeated Campbell County, Ryle, Conner, Boone County and Cooper and lost to Simon Kenton twice, Covington Catholic and Cincinnati St. Xavier.

"I thought we did a great job of progressing throughout the season," said Ryan Leopold, Highlands JV Head Coach. "The guys really learned the positions and they did a great job of improving. That's really what JV is all about."

The Highlands freshman team finished an impressive 9-1. The lone loss came to Ryle, 10-3 on Oct. 24.

"I was extremely happy and proud of how we played this year," said Brady Dowling, Highlands Freshman Head Coach. "We had one phenomenal game against Ryle. They took advantage of the opportunities. That was the difference in the game. Top to bottom, there is a lot of talent in this group. It's exciting to see how they are utilized in the next couple years."

The Fort Thomas Youth Football has two seventh grade and two eighth grade teams. The Highlands Blue eighth-grade team won the Norsemen Conference with a 10-0 record in the regular season including 5-0 in conference play. The Norseman Conference is made of teams from Highlands, Ryle, Conner, Boone County, Cooper and Lexington Catholic.

The Highlands White Eighth grade team finished 6-3 and 4-1 in the conference during the regular season. The Blue team drove to the Division I regional finals before losing to Royal Spring Middle School out of Georgetown. The White lost to Johnson Central to open the playoffs.

The Highlands White Seventh Grade team finished 8-2 during the regular season only losing to eventual state champion Ryle in Norsemen Conference play. The Bluebirds then drove to the region title game before losing to state runner-up Greenup County.

The Highlands Blue Seventh Grade team finished 7-2 overall and 3-2 in conference play. That team lost to Johnson Central to open the playoffs.
