Highlands Drops Second Game in Louisville

Bluebirds Lose Halftime Lead in Defeat

The Highlands Bluebirds basketball team (14-4 overall) lost its second game in two days on the road in Louisville, 47-39 against the host Butler Bearettes (11-5) on Saturday.

This marked the second meeting between the two teams this season. Highlands beat Butler, 43-30 in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic on Dec. 22.



Junior Piper Macke led Highlands with 18 points and junior Maggie Hinegardner scored 10. Senior Zoie Barth did not play for the Bluebirds.

The Bluebirds made 12-of-31 shots for 39 percent including 6-of-14 from three-point range for 43 percent and 9-of-12 free throws for 75 percent. Highlands also had nine assists, five steals, no blocked shots, 16 fouls and 17 turnovers. Senior Chloe Jansen had four assists.

Tiarra East led Butler with 15 points and CaLeia Mills scored 12. Butler made 15-of-48 shots for 31 percent including 8-of-21 from three-point land for 38 percent and 9-of-15 free throws for 60 percent. The Bearettes also had four assists, 11 steals, no blocked shots, 10 fouls and eight turnovers.

Butler won the rebounding battle, 29-22. East led the Bearettes with 10 to record a double-double.

Highlands travels to Walton-Verona (13-4) on Monday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
