Six Straight Combined Region Crowns for Highlands Swimming Diving

Highlands brings home another combined crown

PHOTO: Allen Ramsey, DWCPhoto.com. The Highlands Swimming and Diving Teams won the Region 7 Combined title with 644.5 points for the sixth straight year Saturday.
Make that six consecutive Combined Region 7 crowns for the Highlands Swimming and Diving Teams.

The teams scored a combined 644.5 points to win the crown on Saturday at Silverlake Recreation Center in Erlanger. Dixie Heights finished second with 560.5 points.

The Bluebirds took second as a team with 375.5 points and the Ladybirds took fourth with 269. Covington Catholic again won the men's title with 494 points and Notre Dame win the women's championship with 520. That helped Swimming Head Coach Amanda Johnson win the Men's Coach of the Year honors in the region.

Individually, freshman Finn Murphy earned All-Region Diver honors and freshman Caroline Sand won All-Region Swimmer honors. Murphy tied with Covington Holy Cross for first in the 1-Meter Diving scoring a 455.15 in the finals. Sand finished second in both the Girls 50-Meter Freestyle race in 24.45 seconds and 500 Freestyle race in five minutes, 2.94 seconds.

The state meet is Feb. 23 to 25 at the University of Louisville. The finals take of both swimming and diving take place on Saturday, Feb. 25.
