The Blue and White knew this week would be a tough stretch against good competition.

The Highlands Bluebirds basketball team (9-11 overall) hoped to take down a 9th Region contender Friday in Fort Thomas. But it did not happen as the Dixie Heights Colonels (17-3) left with a 60-41 victory leaving Highlands at 6-4 in region action with its second straight loss.

Senior guard Hunter Meyer led Dixie Heights with 19 points. Kyle Finfrock again led Highlands with eight points and Braden Posey had seven.

Highlands made 14-of-38 shots for 37 percent including 3-of-13 from three-point range for 23 percent. Highlands made 10-of-25 free throws for 40 percent and the Colonels hit 4-of-8 for 50 percent.

Highlands takes on Newport Central Catholic (9-7) on Tuesday in a 36th District contest. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
