Highlands volleyball season ends

The volleyball season ended for the Highlands Ladybirds volleyball team (19-17 overall) with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-8) loss to the Cooper Lady Jaguars in the 9th Region quarterfinals on Tuesday at Dixie Heights.

This marked the last game for six Highlands seniors in Lauren Epperson, Katty Ball, Isabelle Ison, Emma Delagrange, Emma Little and Hannah Harris. The program improved from 13 wins their freshman year in 2013 to the first winning season since 2010.

"It means a ton to us," Epperson said. "Coach (Katelyn) Sallee made an emphasis since our sophomore year that we could change the attitude and legacy of the program. It's just great to see that we were a part of that. It shows how much the younger players looked up to us and we can't be any more thankful that we got the chance to play with them."

Highlands won the first two games of the 36th District championship game against Newport Central Catholic before losing the next three. The Ladybirds last won a district title in 2012 and last won the region championship in 2004.
