The Highlands Bluebirds junior varsity football team (4-1 overall) lost for the first time this year, 24-14 to Cincinnati LaSalle from the Greater Catholic League South.

Highlands trailed 7-6 at halftime. But sophomore Cooper Schwalbach returned the second-half kickoff back 99 yards for a touchdown and the Bluebirds converted the two-point conversion to go up 14-7. However, LaSalle responded with 17 straight points to win the game.

Highlands faces Simon Kenton in Independence on Saturday. Game time is 10 a.m.

Golf, Boys:
Bluebirds take third in conference match:

Highlands finished with a 319 in the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Tournament at Hickory Sticks in California, Kentucky.

The Bluebirds (9-1-1 overall) finished with a team score of 320 finishing one shot behind Bishop Brossart's 319. St. Henry won Division II with a 314 score.

Luke Muller led Highlands shooting a 78. Justin Gabbard and Aaron Verst followed with 79 and Ryan Leigh and Steven Grimme both shot 84. Beechwood's Mitchell Schilling earned medalist honors with a 71.

Highlands takes on Simon Kenton on Wednesday at the courses of Kenton County. It will start around 3:15 to 3:30 p.m.
