Monday Roundup: NewCath softball run-rules Simon Kenton

The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds softball team stayed undefeated at 4-0 with a 10-0 win over visiting Simon Kenton on Monday in five innings.

The Thoroughbreds forced the run-ruling with eight runs in the bottom of the fifth. They outhit the Lady Pioneers, 8-2 and committed no errors to three for Simon Kenton.

NewCath sophomore pitcher Haley Meyers moved to 4-0 with the complete game. She struck out six.

Meyers and Kristen Schreiber had big hits at the plate. Meyers had a two-run triple to the fence and Schreiber had a three-run double.

NewCath plays host to Dayton in a 36th District contest Tuesday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Softball:
Bourbon County 5, Highlands 2:

The Ladybirds (2-2) began the tour of Kentucky with a loss in Paris.

They continue the swing with a doubleheader at South Warren on Tuesday. Game times are 5 and 7 p.m.

Baseball:
Beechwood 13, Newport Central Catholic 0:

The Thoroughbreds fell to 1-5 with a five-inning run-ruling.

NewCath travels to Newport on Wednesday for a 36th District game. Game time is 5 p.m.
