NewCath teams split Saturday

The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbred boys basketball team knocked off South Knox (Indiana) on Saturday at New Castle (Indiana).

The Thoroughbreds reached double-digits in wins again at 10-2. They saw four players reach double-digit scoring. Posts Drew McDonald and Ben Weyer again led the way with 20 and 19 points respectively. Guards Grant Moeves and Zack Pangallo followed with 11 and 10.

NewCath takes on Lloyd Memorial at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on The Hill. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Basketball, Girls:
Louisville Sacred Heart 52, Newport Central Catholic 45:

The Thoroughbreds (8-6) dropped their second straight Saturday.

Ansley Davenport scored 17 to lead NewCath. Teammates Olivia Schalk and Loren Zimmerman followed with 10 each.

Sacred Heart (8-5) saw freshman Grace Berger score 20 points. Lydia Taylor followed with nine.

NewCath takes on Beechwood (5-6) to open the All “A” 9th Region Tournament on Monday at Villa Madonna.
