Ladybirds earn 20th win at Bracken County

The Highlands Ladybirds basketball team earned its 20th win of the year on the road Monday.

The Ladybirds faced the Bracken County Lady Bears (14-6) and pulled off a 51-40 win in a make-up contest. They are 20-5 with their sixth straight win.

Highlands again won at the free-throw line. The Ladybirds made 23-of-29 attempts for 79 percent compared to 13-of-21 for 62 percent for the Lady Bears.

The Ladybird posts led the way. Alex Combs scored 13 points and McKenzie Leigh recorded a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Lydia Graves followed making 7-of-8 free throws on her way to nine points.

Highlands hit 13-of-43 shots for 30 percent, including 2-of-11 three-point tries for 18 percent. Bracken County made 13-of-45 shots for 29 percent, but just 1-of-12 three-pointers for eight percent.

The Lady Bears saw two players reach double-digits. They were Jordan Willis and Bailey Cummins with 16 and 13 points respectively.

Highlands plays another make-up contest Wednesday. The Ladybirds play host to Lloyd Memorial at 5 p.m.
