Tuesday Sports Briefs

Haley Meyers fired her second career no-hitter to lead the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds softball team in the first round of the All “A” 9th Region Classic on Monday at Beechwood.

The Thoroughbreds blasted Ludlow, 16-1 to advance to the next round against Dayton. NewCath is 4-3 overall.

She walked a pair in the first inning before striking out 12. Ludlow’s lone run came on a wild pitch.

NewCath finished with 14 hits led by Taylor Burkart’s two-run home run. She finished with three runs batt3ed in.

Casey Kohls finished 4-for-5 with a triple and two runs batted in with Michaela Ware going 3-for-5 with two RBI for NewCath. Loren Zimmerman followed with two hits, a double and two RBI with Meg Martin adding two RBI.

Baseball:
NewCath 10, Ludlow 4:

The Thoroughbreds (5-5) advanced to the championship game of the All “A” 9th Region Tournament on Tuesday with the win.

Mitch Pangallo picked up the win for NewCath and had two hits including a double at the plate. The Thoroughbreds outhit the Panthers, 13-4.

Jake Pangallo added two doubles with Clint Bartels adding two hits including a double. Mitch Pangallo, Jake Yeager and Kole Zenni added two hits and a double. Yeager had four runs batted in and Tommy Donnelly also had two RBI.

NewCath takes on Beechwood at 6 p.m. at Florence Freedom Field for the championship.
